With the Industrial Revolution ( 17th and 18th c ) , coal mining, a tiny industry in the 15th century, became a national and international industry. Thus, the 19th century was a century of massive expansion for the coal industry in Wales. But the end of the 20th century brought almost universe closure. Find information about 1984 miners' strike.
3.Chapter 1: Two young lives
-" Life was not easy for the Thomas family." Why ? ( 3 lines )
He and their brother have to gather the money. Their father is unemployed and drunk, and their mother died when he was born. They also had a brother, but he died in the war.
-Richard Thomas had been killed while fighting in North Africa in 1943. Which war was it ?
it is about the second world war.
- In chapter 1 we know that Megan and Huw are good friends. Describe the moment
this fragment is from the book , and says:they used to sit together at school, and out of school they spent a lot of time with each other. Noiw their friendship seemed to be getting even stronger.
4. Chapter 2 : The friendship continues
-In this chapter Megan and Huw take a decision about their relationship. Explain it. Why do they take it?
They say that they will not explain the relationship that they have to anybody.Because,their father wanted her to have a
convenient boyfriend for her and a miner of coal with a drunk father
and also poor, was not one of them.
5. Chapter 3: Romance grows
-"This Saturday was going to be a night to remember." ( page 15 ) Why?
Because they will be out of the village, where nobody will be able to suspect their relationship and will be a good moment not to have to hide their feelings.
6. Chapter 4: Death at the mine / Leaving Tredonald
-After the first four chapters, how would you define the relationship between Huw and his brother?
I think that the relationship of brothers has been a lot influenced by their father, who gets drunk and does not work, for the death of their mother,also huw goes a lot from time with megan,because also they have to work a lot. and this relationship separated them more, and finally their dead brother in the mine of coal.
7. Chapter 6: A surprise find
-Megan finds the letters Huw had sent her 50 years before, in 1946 and 1947. Imagine Meg's father was still alive and that you are Meg. What would you tell him?
I think that she would get very angry with their father, although he knew that he only wanted the best for her, and maybe megan would go to canadà to search in huw
In the first letter Meg asks Huw: " Do you think he wanted me to find them when it was to late?". What do you think?
I think that never him too much late to find again to a person
8. Chapter 7: Time to decide
-Before leaving Tredonald, Huw told Megan : "in a year ...I'll come back here and we'll get married..." ( pag.23 ); but things turned out to be completely different. Why ?
Because he sent her letters, but as their father hid them then she could not answer them. Megan thought that he had forgotten about her, and Huw thought that the one that did not want to know anything was megan month of him.
9. Chapter 8: Telling Beth

I think that she acts like this, because she points she is loved and they still have something with majority, their daughter. And I suppose that she makes it for her as well as for their daughter

The guide in the miner,that in these moments is closed and it is only for tourists.
-Why does Huw tell her " you always were a fighter, weren't you?" ? ( pag.48 )
I don't understand this part..
-Do you think two people can still be in love after 50 years without seeing each other?
I think that with time the people forget and still more when you do not see her for so much time for a lot that you love her.But in this book she explains to us that even if they pass many years, that person has always been remembered.
12. Chapter 17 : Time to go
-Imagie the conversation between Paul and Megan the moment she tells him that she is still in love with Huw. Write it down
I imagine in very nervous megan and says that she knows for her a lot of severe, but that she has always loved in one another person and he is huw, not him..

I think that is a very interesting book and also a beautiful love story of two persons that in the end even if they pass a lot of time withouth is joints the fate joins them, and in the drawing reflects this.
